Growth Strategy and Resource Demands at Platform Lab Spur Campaign for Additional FundingColumbus, Ohio (August 13, 2004) - Platform Lab today announced plans for the non-profit information technology business services firm to solicit financial support for the organization's strategy of continued growth and development from the Third Frontier Commission at the Ohio Department of Development. This comes in response to the Third Frontier Network's recent request for proposal to distribute monetary resources to select technology initiatives throughout Ohio. The emphasis of its proposal for development is the creation of the country's first multi-location fiber channel test infrastructure. This resource would allow firms to leverage Platform Lab, both locally and nationally, to validate and troubleshoot large-bandwidth applications distributed on multiple nodes on Ohio's Third Frontier Network. Since Platform Lab's inception in January 2002, the organization has supported the IT testing and training needs of Central Ohio businesses. Even in a lagging economy, Platform Lab experienced a 300 percent growth rate last year as companies were held to greater accountability for technology spending. The facility provides hardware, software, space and high-speed bandwidth built to client specifications. Small two-person operations and multi-million dollar corporations have used the facility to conduct disaster recovery drills, load testing, multi-platform testing, proof-of-concept testing and more. The resources available at Platform Lab have afforded Ohio companies with the "on demand" availability that is frequently cost-prohibitive or limited in scope. With significant ongoing resource commitments from numerous firms and organizations statewide, Platform Lab now plans to bring similar resources to the Appalachian region of the state by offering a branch location at the Athens Innovation Center in Athens, Ohio. Additionally, the self-sustaining non-profit organization will also provide technology support and services at a Lorain Community College branch location, among others. This growth strategy will result in additional applied research and development opportunities through the enhancement of the technology capabilities at the various node locations. It will also accelerate the commercialization process for distributed applications in the Ohio IT sector. The organization also plans to support software development for more Ohio businesses by serving as a testing facility and aims to provide the State of Ohio with verification of technology solutions as part of its request for proposal process. Additionally, new compliance legislation impacting technology in industries such as healthcare and finance, with the new HIPAA and Sarbane-Oxley regulations respectively, will extend current demands on existing Platform Lab resources. If Platform Lab secures additional funding, it will immediately enhance current hardware capabilities, fund technical teams and build additional locations along the Third Frontier Network to extend its reach and fulfill its mission to expedite technology delivery and improve the quality of technology products for high-yield growth and financial savings for Ohio companies. These efforts, along with several other programs funded by the Third Frontier, will reinforce Ohio's dedication to leading the country as a center for technology innovation. ### About Platform Lab - Platform Lab is a partnership between the Business Technology Center and the Ohio Supercomputer Center. Started in 2002, Platform Lab was initially funded by the Ohio Department of Development. Now a self-sustaining non-profit, the organization provides technology resources, facilities, education and networking to central Ohio businesses to expedite delivery and improve the quality of technology products for high-yield growth and financial savings.
