| 09/13/2010 | JavaScript Craftsmanship: why JavaScript is worthy of TDD | |
|
6:00 PM |
If you are doing any development that involves JavaScript you don't want to miss this presentation. I know Justin is working with JavaScript for quite sometime and uses tdd for JavaScript. Only yesterday, an experienced candidate told me in an interview that "JavaScript is just a scripting language, because it is not object-oriented." All-too-common is the perception that JavaScript is a second-rate toy language that is only suffered by "real" developers because no alternatives are available to web clients. While these misperceptions have dissipated greatly among highly engaged developers, the industry has been exceptionally slow to catch up. The combination of technical and business oriented topics: Test-Driven Development In Action (more technical in nature, with code demos) Test-driven development is a development technique where you write unit tests before you write your actual implementation code. Does that sound crazy to you? Well, if crazy means ending up with more maintainable, higher quality, well designed code and a lower stress level, then you've come to the right place. Come along for the ride and I'll show you how to get started down the path to TDD enlightenment and how behavior driven development can help you ensure that you write code that actually does what the business wants it to do with drastically reduced bug counts. Why Should You Care About Test-Driven Development? (more business-focused) What is test-driven development, and why should you care about it? What is the ROI on unit testing? Is TDD going to make your projects take longer? What do you need to get your team started with TDD? Test-driven development is an essential part of many successful Agile projects and has revolutionized the way that I write software. Come get your TDD questions answered and find out how TDD can help you write better software. For more information, or to register for this event, please click here. |

This course has helped dozens of people in the Columbus area prepare for and earn their CISSP designation. This course can also be used to earn CPEs for other certifications or learn more about information security. This course is run similar to a graduate-school course, and offers what we feel is an unparalleled opportunity to study the CISSP Body of Knowledge. | 10/28/2010 | BioOhio Annual Conference "Innovation Road Show" | |
|
10:00 AM |
This year BioOhio is taking the annual conference networking and learning experience around the state. And at each 1-day event the focus will be on innovation... defining it, discussing it, debating it, and understanding how essential it is from R&D through commercialization to market. Full agenda details are still being cooked, but we couldn't be more excited about the major speakers we've set up: In Dublin in October: Christine Poon, Dean of Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, and former Worldwide Chairman of Medicines & Nutritionals of J&J Early bird rates: $55 for BioOhio members, $90 for non-members, $45 for students Each event will kick off around 10, include a great lunch, wrap-up around 4:30, and then capped off with a networking reception. We think this regional-one-year, central-the-next approach will allow us to extend the value of the annual conference and allow more "first timers" to experience the event and learn more about Ohio's growing bioscience industry. Visit bioohio.com for further info, including stops in Cleveland and Cincinnati. For more information, or to register for this event, please click here. |
