04/01/2010   Special Request - Sign up for Startup Digest
2:30 PM

The following is a special request from Ben Blanquera, an outstanding leader in our local IT community.

Special Request - Sign up for Startup Digest
The simple and acclaimed Startup Digest that sprung out of Silicon Valley, got featured on TechCrunch, and grew to 20,000 subscribers has reached Columbus! Check it out here: http://www.thestartupdigest.com.

I'm the Curator (read: free labor) for the Columbus digest - some friends gave me the heads up about it and I thought, "why don't we do this here?" I contacted the founders, we talked, found we had shared values, and voila I'm now the Columbus Startup Digest curator.

Basically, it's a weekly digest of the best startup events happening in the Columbus area (this will be expanded coverage from what you see in this email), emailed to you every Monday. It's the fastest and easiest way to know what's happening in the tech/web/startup community.

I'd love a little help with the first digest (launching Monday 4/12 )- if you've got 20 seconds please:
- If you want to receive the digest, sign up at thestartupdigest.com
- If you know of events happening, please send me the link or additional info

The Startup Digest is an email digest of the best startup events in your area. Here are 5 things that we will accomplish:
1. We will promote the entrepreneurial lifestyle and the culture of DOING, to help change the world into a better place.
2. We will strengthen the pre-existing entrepreneurial communities no matter how small or large they currently are
3. We will create stronger bonds between entrepreneurs through relevant events where the startup community physically meets each other.
4. We will promote the cross-pollination of ideas and people that would not otherwise interact.
5. We will empower the leaders in these startup communities and give them the tools and inspiration to create a huge difference.

The record for prelaunch advanced signup is 120 among all startup digest communities throughout the country. Help draw some attention to the Columbus startup community by helping us beat that mark by signing up.

Thanks Again,
Ben

Advanced Analytical Architectures
The age of advanced analytics is upon us. Today systems are delivering AI results in real life systems. The integration of advanced analytical technology into line of business applications requires special considerations. As such, an analytical technologies can be set for "stun or for kill" when inserted into an operational environment. Analytical technologies generally consume base information, composite/augmented information, derived information, and real time information and then synthesize everything to direct workflows, decision support activities, or predictive logic. Getting this right is sometime more daunting than it would otherwise seem. This session will review analytical technologies such as rule engines, neural networks, decision trees, and more and will describe how they can best be integrated into a larger application. Additional consideration will be given to testing and validating these architectures.

04/23/2010   Business Breakfast: Measuring and Maximizing your Social Media Marketing and ROI.
    7:30 AM

Is social media marketing worth it? Today, a wide range of industries are increasingly using social media as a low-cost way to enhance brand awareness and market products and services. But social media IS NOT FREE. It takes people, technology, and time—all of which are in limited resources. Two major questions keep popping up with business owners and marketing professionals:
How can we maximize the potential of social media?
How can we effectively measure social media ROI?

While all the growth and potential surrounding social media marketing is certainly exciting, it can become a bottomless pit of wasted time. Measuring the impact of social marketing can be difficult because the returns you’ll get out of networking via social media are not always direct and immediate. As social media continues to grow at an exhilarating pace, it can become challenging for marketers to balance the time-consuming demands of today’s social media marketing landscape with their businesses’ core focus.
Join TechColumbus for an informative panel discussion to explore innovative ideas and best business practices to maximize and measure your social media marketing initiatives. Topics that will be explored include:
What does and does not work in social media marketing
Can you truly measure social media ROI?
Measurable metrics – how to tie your social media marketing to actual business performance
Smarter social – tips and tools to improve your social media efficiency
    Case studies and best practices

    Panelists:
Bill Balderaz - Principal, Webbed Marketing
Nate Riggs - Principal, Social Business Strategies LLC
Kristie Lewis – Assistant Buyer, Moochie & Co
Adrienne Shinn - Manager, Web Development, Ohio Health
