November 2nd, 2004 Hello to all that come to the Platform Lab website! From what I understand, a blog is meant to be a personal reflection, a snapshot of the primary subject - in this case Platform Lab and the Ohio IT community - and with that we begin. First, I need to thank to two firms that have provided a tremendous amount of support to the Lab - iHost Solutions and Market Fundamentals. iHost has been the engine behind the Platform Lab monthly newsletter and Mike Eldredge is a person the entire Ohio IT community can be proud of. Market Fundamentals has designed the website you are visiting and is assisting with the promotion of this non-profit resource. Platform Lab is currently very busy - we have clients in the Lab nearly every week in the fourth quarter of 2004. Much of this can be attributed to an upcoming HIPAA requirement that healthcare facilities must conduct an off-site disaster recovery test prior to April 22, 2005. Although I am glad that Ohio hospitals have this option available to them, many are simply not prepared and will not be HIPAA compliant by the due date. The hot topic at the Lab is our proposed expansion project. We have submitted a proposal to the State to open up at least three branch locations along the Third Frontier Network and create America's first non-profit fiber channel wide area network. The basis of the State's RFP was to find ideas on how to create utilization of this resource. We believe that a 2 Gigabit WAN for the purpose of distributed application validation will be a unique technology resource that will be utilized by firms nationally and spur business development in the Ohio IT sector. We should get notice of our status near the beginning of December, and I will keep all of you posted. I am going to keep these blogs short….as much as I will enjoy this; I need to spend my time building awareness of Platform Lab….besides, I do not think I will be writing any best-sellers anytime soon.
